reed’s hard - canned alcoholic drink photography

Spring sips with a kick!

I (obviously) love working with easy-going clients, and Reed’s Hard is definitely one of them!

Reed’s Hard crafts vibrant, refreshing canned alcoholic drinks with real ginger and natural ingredients. Their branding is bold and modern, and full of energy—an ideal match for my photography style!

For this shoot, Reed’s had just one directive: Spring. That was it! As long as the images and stop-motions captured bright, seasonal energy, the creative direction was entirely up to me.

Side Note:

A fun and unique aspect of this photoshoot is that it was a dual-brand shoot, offering Reed’s double the value and double the fun! As the parent company of several brands, Reed’s wanted to use the vibrant Spring theme to showcase both Reed’s Hard and their zero-sugar soda brand, Virgil’s. It was an exciting opportunity to capture two fantastic brands in one cohesive photoshoot.

The Reed’s Hard team referenced a few of my past images that resonated with them, then handed me full creative control.

At first, the wide-open freedom felt overwhelming. My mind raced through countless concepts—checkerboard picnics, rolling fields of flowers, fresh green grass, baby bunnies, soft blue skies.

With so many ideas, how do I refine them into a cohesive gallery—what ties it all together? Would I have time to experiment with new techniques? And realistically, would baby bunnies connect with hard ginger ale drinkers?

Once I took a step back, I found my focus: color.

Color is a powerful storytelling tool, especially in today’s visually driven world. It speaks to us both consciously and subconsciously, setting the mood and enhancing a brand's personality.

For this shoot, I built my concept around:

  • Sky blue – A fresh, open-sky feeling after months of winter.

  • Vibrant green – The return of lush grass and new growth.

  • Bright yellow – The joyful energy of blooming spring flowers.

To bring it all together, I incorporated natural elements—grass, flowers, and soft, fluffy clouds—to create an immersive seasonal atmosphere.

Reed’s Hard absolutely loved the results!

A trusting relationship between brand and photographer makes all the difference. When a client allows creative freedom within a clear vision, it leads to truly standout imagery.

Of course, collaboration is always welcome! But if you’re a brand looking to offload the creative process, finding a photographer whose style you love—and trusting their expertise—can be a game-changer.
